This is a very common drink in my house during the cold season. Especially when friends pop by for a chat.
One of my oldest and closest friends, Ashley Holliday, is hosting a hot toddy gathering this Friday, and asked for my recipe, so I thought I'd share it with you.
There are a slew of recipes and multiple ways to prepare it. I threw this one together, on a whim, a few years ago and have made it ever since. Mine, unlike proper mixology, doesn’t require any muddling. In fact, I like to let the ingredients steep a bit to reap some of their benefits.
HOT TODDY |
2 oz Bourbon
1 Tbls raw local honey
1” fresh cut ginger
2 springs of mint
Bring one cup of hot water to a boil. Place mint and ginger in cup or pot—pending on how many servings you’re making. Pour hot water in the cup. Let it steep for five minutes. Add lemon, honey, and bourbon. Garnish with a cinnamon stick (I was low on sticks), clove and/or lemon wedge.
