Daniela Moreno | Cardamom + Coconut Smoothie

Daniela is certainly my soul sister and private yogi guru. I’ve never met a more egoless and motivating energy in my life. She pushes me to try yoga poses I didn’t even know could be achieved by my body. Her heart is that of a Golden Retriever seeing only good in everyone. I can call this free spirit on any given day to suggest dropping everything to head to Palm Springs for the night “just to connect with the desert,” and there would be no questions asked. Meet your new favorite private yoga instructor, and enjoy her AMAZING smoothie recipe.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT ASHTANGA MEANS TO YOU AND WHY YOU GRAVITATE TO IT

When I practice Ashtanga, I connect with my true self and feel the powerful connection between my mind and body. I am reminded that the present is the only moment that matters and that is REAL.

Ashtanga is a constant reminder that through patience and consistency my body is capable of anything. I was not athletic growing up, so as my yoga practice evolves, I become more and more grateful for all that my body has been able to achieve.

Prior to yoga I was a runner. I enjoy rigorous exercise. I like to sweat. Ashtanga provides me with all that and more. It is physically demanding and NEVER stops challenging me. This particular type of yoga is "self-led" which creates an even deeper connection and understanding of your body, and makes it possible to practice anytime without the need of attending a yoga class.

SNACK TO KEEP YOU GOING

Raw sprouted mixed nuts! I mix about 1-2 ounces of pumpkin seeds, Brazil nuts, and almonds in a small container that fits easily into my purse to ensure that I eat healthy throughout my busy workdays. Nuts keep me full, are easy to carry around and packed with beautifying nutrients!

FAVORITE BEAUTY DRINK

Definitely my morning smoothie! I get to use my creativity and create recipes that are tasty, yet nourishing, like the recipe below. Another favorite is what I call "The Gingerbread Cookie." My smoothies always contain maca root powder, chia seeds, and hemp seeds—which I have found to be the most energizing for my morning yoga practice. I alternate other ingredients such as coconut oil, flaxseed powder, goji berry powder, cacao, hemp protein, and acai powder.

POSE THAT BRINGS YOU THE MOST SERENITY AND WHY

Inversions such as headstands, and their variations, show me how to look at the world from a different perspective. While inverted, my body feels strong and capable of anything. I feel in control of myself, my thoughts and feel a special appreciation for the earth beneath me.

FAVORITE SUPER FOOD

Cacao! I have the biggest sweet tooth. Cacao's versatility makes it so easy to enjoy guilt-free raw treats that make me feel good inside and out. My favorite quick treats are raw cacao truffles made with coconut oil and honey.

TIPS TO RECOVER AFTER A LONG NIGHT OUT

I make sure to have lots of water BEFORE bed to help hydrate my body while I sleep and recover. And yes, this means I might have to wake up in the middle of the night for a trip to the restroom, but long nights have consequences, and I am willing to pay if it means I will feel better when I wake. In the morning I'll have a fresh coconut (water + meat) and a green juice followed by a 30 minute steam session.
