Desiree Pais of Benshen guides us through the lunar energy of New Moon in Libra. She invites us to slow down, take inventory, and find balance. What areas of your life need minimization, focus, and flow?
D | If there's anything that we've become fluent in, as a culture, it's extremism. We tip the scale to each end so far that we no longer know which way is up and which way is down. And epidemically, we're dealing with more dis-eases, stress, and chaos than ever. This New Moon in Libra couldn't have come at a better time, asking us to slow down as we transition into the Fall and Winter, the more Yin, introspective seasons. This Libra Moon is not asking up to slow into stagnancy. Rather, it's asking us to find the balance in our lives, in all avenues.
In my own personal experience, a few month ago I witnessed a radical shift in how I approached life. I was doing the Addictions Meditation daily and after a few weeks, I started to see my patterns more clearly and was able to release many of them. A major pattern I was attached to was actually stress, ironically. I was so addicted to the high-pace lifestyle - blaming New York City for all my problems when in reality it was the choices I was making day-to-day that were affecting my stress levels. New York wasn't doing a thing. I realized I packed so much into my day, I took on way more than I could handle, I would skip meals because I was too busy, and drank coffee/ate raw chocolate, only to wonder why I was struggling with adrenal fatigue and hormonal imbalance.
Once I started to realized I was addicted to stress and a very busy lifestyle, I began to peel away the layers. I started to ask myself, "What can I release? How much can I really afford to do each day? How much of what I do per day is actually NECESSARY to get done on THAT day? Can it wait? Am I eating for my hormones? Am I giving myself enough time in the morning?"
As I began to peel away what didn't serve my health, wellness, and vibrancy, I began to realize that I actually needed WAY more time to myself than I was allowing. I needed at least until 11am to finish my morning meditation practice, tea, and journaling. I needed enough time to prepare my meals so I didn't skip out on nutrients. I needed to only take clients two days a week rather than spreading them out all over the place. I needed gentleness, softness, and slowness. As I began to implement these small - yet profound - tweaks into my daily life, my health began to radically shift. I had more energy. My skin was more radiant. The bags under my eyes vanished. And the biggest pro: I was much happier, kinder, and sweeter to everyone around me. This Moon is all about welcoming the balance in our lives to be able to do the things we love with the least amount of stress as possible. One of my favorite ways to help bring balance into my life is Kundalini Yoga. A wonderful and easy meditation to do, especially around this New Moon in Libra, which creates a cosmic opening inviting us to embody a new way of living, is Alternate Nostril Breathing.
The New Moon is a perfect time to begin a new practice. On the Eve of the New Moon, either alone or with a small group of friends, gather in candlelight for a moon ritual. Set intentions of how you are going to bring balance into your life. Create sustainable, daily action steps to make this manifest. When you're finished, end the evening with 11 minutes of Alternate Nostril breathing. I love to play This Universe by Singh Kaur. If you find the meditation to be helpful, try adding it into your life for the next 40 days, even if just for three minutes a day, and see how grace-FULL your life becomes.
