Forbidden Rice

I constantly go through gluten-free grain obsession phases where I find myself eating some daily at lunch for a few weeks on end.  As of late, it has been black rice or “Forbidden Rice” (deemed during a time in China where it was forbidden for anyone to consume this delicacy aside form the emperor due to its small harvest).

Not only is it tasty and beautiful, but it's loaded with copious benefits. Forbidden rice caries the same anthocyanin antioxidant found in blueberries, blackberries and acai.  One spoonful contains more health promoting anthocyanin (heart disease preventing) that a spoonful of blueberries - with less sugar, more fiber, and more vitamin E antioxidants (cancer preventing).  You can also enjoy 8.5g of protein, 3.5g of iron, and 4.9g of fiber per serving.  So basically this is brown rice’s superfood cousin.

When you’re prepping holiday dishes these next few weeks, you might want to consider swapping out this rice for your other grain choice.
