Since we embarked on the subject of feminine moon time yesterday. I thought we might as well just get right into it today. The word "menstruation" is etymologically related to "moon". The terms "menstruation" and "menses" are derived from the Latin mensis (month), which in turn relates to the Greek mene (moon) and to the roots of the English words month and moon. Menstrual synchrony, in particular by association with the moon, is a belief found in mythology throughout the world. In some historic cultures, a menstruating woman was considered sacred and powerful, with increased psychic abilities, and strong enough to heal the sick. Many Native American tribes honored menses through oral tradition, rituals, and ceremonies. Native women where treated with an amazing amount of reverence when they were menstruating and often called upon by tribe members for advice, insight, guidance, or to connect them to higher powers.
So the next time one is bummed about their cycle, remember that before shaming became a thing, women were considered cyclical goddesses.
That leads us to my moon time essentials.
WOMAN CODE | I've chatted about this bible before. It truly should be handed to every woman the moment she begins her cycle at a young age. It covers everything from healing the endocrine system, adrenals, thyroid function to living and eating for the four phases of the woman's monthly cycle. I completely live by this and anyone or client I've ever introduced this book to wants to shout from the rooftops that every woman pick it up. It completely healed and diminished any PMS symptoms I used to experience.
MONTHLY COMFORT TEA | usually in the precious two weeks leading up to my cycle I drink my Tea Of The Feminine infusion. However, when on the go, traveling, or in a pinch, this tea is comprised of some of my absolute favorite herbs. You'll catching me steeping it for 20 minutes and drinking 2-3 cups a day.
OVER THE MOON | I have become OBSESSED with this essential oil to which I diffuse during the full moon (also doubling as the first day of my cycle). I’ll use it as a perfume on those days as well. Well Scent truly got it right with this blend. Hormone-balancing and endocrine supportive, this essential oil blend contains empowering essential oils that make it a beautiful addition to ceremonies, prayer, meditation, chakra work, and acts as a tool in setting intentions and manifesting our greatest goals. Beyond.
WOOL SOCKS | I, like most women, have dreadful circulation around the time of my cycle (due to adrenal issues), and so my feet are always cold unless the temperatures are higher than 77 degrees outside. As promised to my acupuncturist, I always have a pair of wool or cotton socks on to keep the heat from escaping my body.
BURDOCK DAIKON CITRINE | if the temperatures are soaring outside, and allow for colder raw foods, then I mot def. indulge in this juice. Due to its liver supporting and cleansing properties.
ACTIVATED DULSE & VINEGAR ALMONDS | And these are a must snack. Due to the blood cleansing and building properties of dulse and apple cider vinegar. They also add that wonderful snack crunch with the perfect flavor.
