The summer is such an effortless time when it comes to beauty. We're responsibly tan, our hair is naturally salty and wavy from the ocean, pool, rivers and lakes, and raw foods are at their peak providing our skin luminosity through beautiful enzymes, vitamins, and antioxidants. But what about the other upkeep and few holistic makeup bits? Back again, with her infinite wisdom, is go-to holistic beauty wonder Britanie Faith of Beauty by Britanie. She taught us the healing benefits of crystals, how to transition our skincare for the seasons, and (a topic close to my heart) healthy holistic hair. Today she gives us the ins-and-outs of the effortless summer glow. Enter clap emoji here!
B | We all want to look vibrant, healthy and have that special summer "glow". Here are some of my favorite beauty & wellness tips for helping your skin become one of your best assets.
Exfoliate: Exfoliating your skin is essential. It should be done a few times per week to get rid of dead skin cells and help your skin cells to rejuvenate and to turn over. I exfoliate and body brush every time I shower and I exfoliate my face at least two times a week. No more and no less. Too much can irritate the delicate facial skin. Not enough exfoliation will show up in your face when you start seeing blocked pores or your foundation and concealer settling into lines and dry patches. This signals that your skin is in need of regular exfoliation. I recommend using physical natural exfoliates over chemical options for obvious health reasons.
DIY Skin Clearing + Brightening Mask: This is one of the most simple, and effective DIY recipes that I recommend for all skin types. It requires TWO ingredients and will literally make such a difference in your complexion if you integrate this into your weekly beauty regimen once per week. You can also use this as a daily face wash if you need the added natural assistance in eliminating acne, hyper-pigmentation or scars. This mask brightens the skin, clears up blemishes, reduces acne and will over time soften your face and give a more youthful glow and appearance.
**Mix 1/4 tsp organic turmeric with 1 tsp honey and apply to cleansed (damp) skin. Leave on for up to 10 minutes. (This concoction tends to be messy, so make sure you have a dedicated towel/washcloth for this DIY treatment) Rinse with warm water. Moisturize the skin immediately after rinsing to lock in moisture. Gently pat dry. (Skin can appear yellowish due to the natural components of the turmeric, they will absorb into your skin...so don't panic!)**
Hydrosols + Oils + Serums: 9 times out of 10 I recommend using organic oils to moisturizer the skin over any other type of moisturizer. I do think there are some specific brands that are wonderful, but if you really want to get that natural, glowing look to your skin, applying oils is the best way to achieve this. I recommend using Jojoba oil and my most important tip for applying oils to the skin is to always use a toner or tonic with it. Spritz a few sprays of Rosewater or my personal favorite EvanHealy Rose Geranium Hydrosoul Tonic into the palm of your hand, then drop 2-3 (depending on your skin type... 1-2 for oily skin, 2-3 for dry) drops of Jojoba (or oil of choice) into your hand, mix the Hydrosoul with the oil and gently apply in upward motions pressing into your neck and face. With anything remaining, apply to your decollete.
Use Tinted Moisturizer instead of Foundation: I find that using a tinted moisturizer or BB Cream instead of a foundation makes your skin look that much more natural looking. There are also usually many brightening properties included in both tinted moisturizers and BB Creams that can further enhance that "glow" also they contain SPF which is an added bonus. One of my favorite tips is to mix my bb cream with a liquid or even mineral bronzer, mix together and apply all over the face with fingers. This gives the skin the most beautiful, natural bronze glow!
Highlight: There is nothing like a good highlighter to really brighten up the entire face. It's one of the easiest and most important makeup tips! I always recommend applying in a backwards C shape from the top of your brow, down to the middle of your cheek. I also apply a small amount down the bridge of my nose and to my cupids bow. Another tip is to apply it right in the inner corners of each eye, this really brightens up the entire eye area and makes you look more awake! RMS Beauty makes a wonderful highlighter called, the Living Luminizer which is just gorgeous. I occasionally use their Lunar Cream Eyeshadow as a highlighter when I'm looking for more of a golden hue.
Never forget that a true natural glow is cultivated from inside~out! So drink your greens, add in beauty-enhancing herbs like Ashitaba and Chlorella from SunPotion, Beauty Dust from The Moon Juice Shop and try to avoid most processed foods. Also - drink purified water!!
