New moon in Virgo this Sunday (September 13th) is a partial solar eclipse. Desiree Pais of Benshen is here to guide us through the best ways to optimize this this powerful lunar day that breathes new beginnings. Are you ready to go down, down, down or up, up, up?
D | As the season transitions into Fall, and as we’re part of the natural world, we too are inspired to change within. The leaves will begin to fall and the trees make no effort to hold onto them, knowing that there will be beautiful, new blossoms as soon as the spring unfolds, after a winter of going within.
The past few months have been absolutely fiery in the heart and mind, challenging us to see all of our patterns, all of our fears, all of our doubts, all of our insecurities. It felt like everything was blowing up right in front of our faces and it was. The Cosmos created an opportunity for not just one of our major issues to arise but for nearly ALL of them over the last few months.
And now with this powerful Solar Eclipse that’s aligned with the New Moon in Virgo, we can finally breath in new beginnings. A Solar Eclipse is a portal opening into the depths of transformation and a New Moon is the perfect time to plant the seeds of what exactly you want to see transform in your life. Right now, we particularly have a profound opportunity for profound healing on many, many different levels. We have the opportunity to see that we are the creators of our lives and that we can decide whether we want to live a life of stress and chaos or calm and prosperity. It takes the same amount of energy to live in both - it just depends which way of life we want to give our energy to. Yogi Bhajan, the Master of Kundalini Yoga, once said, “How far down can you go? You can go down and down and down; and that descent is also Infinity. In the same way you can go upward toward Infinity, so you can go downward toward Infinity, because the cycle and the circuit must be completed. It takes the same amount of energy to be radiant, divine, dignified, holy, healthy, and happy, as it takes to be negative, depressed, and so on…”
Whenever we work with making changes in our lives, we are always confronted with a battle of the ego, the part of us that doesn't want to change, the part of us that tries to keep us stuck, small, and powerless. It takes energy and strength to stand up to our own inner voice and declare that we are ready and willing to make a powerful change in our lives. When we can stand up to the ego, when we can stand up to the loud voice of the subconscious mind, we make a declaration to the Universe that we are available for it to support us and there is absolutely nothing that will get in your way when you do so.
However, I recently read one of Lacy’s old blog posts on Working With Your Subconscious Mind and it was so powerful that I wanted to suggest that we all do this exercise on the eve of the New Moon in order to get our subconscious mind on board. The subconscious mind makes up 97% of our minds, which indicates we are only using 3% of our conscious mind. This means that the majority of our conscious actions are governed by our subconscious programming. Our subconscious programming is THAT powerful and therefore we want it to get on board with the changes we want to make or else it feels like a battle we’ll never be able to win with many day 1’s and loads of guilt, shame, and feelings of failure.
Think about your most challenging habit. How impulsive it is, how it happens without you even thinking of it or even wanting to do it. Think about how strong the impulse is and how suddenly you feel completely taken over by it. That’s the negative workings of the subconscious mind, guiding us to live impulsively by the foundations of fears we’ve allowed it to exist from.
Now imagine if you turned those fears into love. Imagine how it would feel if that same powerful impulse of the subconscious mind which drives your conscious actions was actually POSITIVE. Imagine if the impulse of the subconscious mind was driving you to be healthy, to make better choices, to treat your body well, to eat well, to do your work efficiently, to be open to prosperity and abundance. It has the entire power in all of it’s being to do that. We just have to flip the switch and change gears.
On the eve of the New Moon, light some candles, and sit comfortably. Take out your journal and begin to work on these exercises. Just allow everything to flow. Allow it to be released. Allow the energy of this lunar cycle to guide you toward healing. I love to have This Universe by Singh Kaur playing in the background. It’s absolutely stunning. After you finish taking your time to work with the exercise, sit quietly with your eyes closed. Place your hands on your heart. Begin breathing, long and deep.
As you inhale, say to yourself, “I am radiant, strong, beautiful, powerful.”
As you exhale, “I am willing to change.”
